9-11 Remeberance 2011

I remeber where i was on September Eleventh 2001...
I was taking a shower and was listening to the MJ show on the radio when I heard it and thought it was a really bad joke at first...but when i got out of the shower, I turned the TV on and saw the second plane crash into the second tower...My sister lived in New York at that  time and I have a few friends who live there, so this struck me on a very personal level. No one I  knew personally was injured or killed from the attacks, but it honestly still gives me chills and I tear up at remembering what happened...

The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th or 9/11 were a series of four coordinated suicide attacks upon the United States in New York City and Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2001. On that Tuesday morning, 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger jets. The hijackers intentionally crashed two planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City; both towers collapsed within two hours. Hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth jet, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to take control before it could reach the hijacker's intended target in Washington, D.C. Nearly 3,000 died in the attacks.

9-11 comics emerged following the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, and cartoonists turned to art to express their grief and support.

Marvel Comics produced three charity books, Heroes, The Amazing Spider-Man #36 and A Moment of Silence. Heroes was a book of sixty-four full-page illustrations paying tribute to those who attempted to save lives on 9-11.

The profits from sales of the comic went to 9-11 based charities. The Amazing Spider Man #36 explores how Spider-Man and other Marvel characters like Captain America, Daredevil, Doctor Doom and Magneto react in the aftermath of the attacks; and A Moment of Silence features four wordless stories reflecting different perspectives on September 11th, all inspired by true events.

Proceeds from the sale of all of these comics went to the World Trade Center Relief Fund, Survivors Fund, September 11th Fund, Twin Towers Fund

We will never forget...
