Now when the first Ghost Rider came out I was super excited in true geeky Fanboy style. Even though Nic Cage was going to be Johny Blaze/Ghost Rider, I was still optimistic......Needless to say I was quickly brought back to reality watching Nic Cage's 'humdrum"
performance and portrayal of Johny Blaze (cause let's face it the Ghost Rider himself was CGI which is the only thing that saved this movie) How does Nic still get work? I mean we all respect and revere the cult classic Raising Arizona (1987).
Ghost Rider/Johny Blaze was my very first fav Marvel comic as a kid. The character of Johny Blaze was not a slow talking seemingly stoned or drunk dullard! Reading the book, he honestly comes off as being rather intelligent. Nic Cage seemed half asleep most of the time. This is the same guy who wanted to be the new Superman....(I have said it before, NO ONE wants to see a balding, big nosed Superman!) Outside of the CGI effects the only other saving grace of this movie was (no NOT Eva Mendes) Sam Elliott; who played Carter Slade, the old West Ghost Rider.
And aparently Sam isnt even going to be in this one! WHAT THE HELL SONNY?!? Everyone agrees one of the best parts of the film was the two Riders in the desert.
We also thought the sequel was going to be about Carter Slade/Ghost Rider.
Okay, enough Nic Cage bashing. I mean i could devote an entire website to THAT alone! I DO like the look of the Ghost Rider this time. It's a more classic look like from the comic, not so much 'supernatural bling' with the chains and the spikes, and the funky looking bike. Now i am not knocking that look, i am just saying that I am digging this classic look a little better. This is the character that I grew up with.
Apparently in this film he is a much darker character, much like the original comic character. Just so long as Nic wakes the **** up in this one!
Well take a peek at the trailer and judge for yourselves...
And yeah, I know at the end of the clip it looks like Ghost Rider is peeing fire....lol
Anytime Sam Elliott is in a film, it's just awesome. I'm not much of a comic book guy, but this intrigues me. I did see most of the first film, so to hear that Elliott won't be in this one does hurt. If Cage treats this role as somewhat of a second chance, maybe his efforts will improve.
